Monster Truck Cake

And here it is...

The Monster Truck cake that I made for my nephew's 5th birthday. I didn't take pictures of the process like I usually do, because I was short on time. I flew through this thing, but all in all, I'm happy with it. It's fun. And it's probably bad, but I've noticed that when I'm not actually getting paid for making the cake, my work isn't as clean as it could be and I don't get near as detailed.

The truck is white cake, stacked and carved, frosted, then covered with fondant. The flames are drawn on with butter cream frosting. The tires are doughnuts (Entenmann's...because they're so tasty. And someone has to eat the remaining four...) The crushed cars are also carved out of white cake and covered with fondant. The base is chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream frosting. The dirt is brown sugar. Gumdrop lights and licorice roll bar.
And while we're on the subject of Monster Truck cakes, here is the one I did for Nick's 4th birthday. This was in 2007 and before I'd discovered fondant. It's strictly canned frosting. But note the same kind of tires...

They are both adorable. You've got talent! Of course, I would've chosen Entemann's donuts too...like you said...someone has to eat the leftover donuts.

So now when people tell me to "eat dirt" I don't have to be so disappointed. Wow!

Fantastic cake. I'm with Matty..."Can you ship them"? You could have the beginning of a bustling business here.

The cakes are absolutely adorable! And what a great aunt you are to eat those left over donuts!

You are my idol... I make pies but they all look basically the same and require no fondant or marzipan or fancy-schmancy stacking layers and CARVING ... I carve turkeys and roasts, not cakes!
Totally awesome job!

Very fun purusing your cakes. I do cakes for fun too, and love that you post about the crashes and near-flops. I have had so many... (fillings squishing out, a/c going out on a 100+ degree day and the huge wedding cake nearly melting...). Somehow we manage to save them, though, don't we? So glad you do what makes you happy.
